Iowa Conservationists Take a New Approach to Unwanted/Discarded Items
Before putting that old rocking chair on the curb for trash or taking that working but outdated kitchen stove to the dump, give it away to someone who can ReUseIt! One person's trash is another's treasure takes on a new meaning with a worldwide organization dedicated to reducing the strain on our natural resources by keeping usable items in circulation. In our disposable society where many items are discarded long before they have actually outlived their use, The ReUseIt Network finds new uses for unwanted items that would otherwise be thrown into the trash. ReUseIt Network groups have been launched in Iowa. There are groups in Johnson and Washington Counties, with more being formed. You can find the JohnsonCounyIAReUseIt group on the web at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JohnsonCounyIAReUseIt And the Washington_County_Iowa_ReUseIt group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Washington_County_Iowa_ReUseIt These online forums serve as a tool to make connections between community members who want to help each other, themselves, and their environment. ReUseIt Network groups can be found throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia. Visit the ReUseIt Network's web site and check the directory to find a group: http://reuseitnetwork.org Anyone can join a local group forum in order to browse items available or post items they wish to discard. Membership is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. The only constraint is that everything posted must be 100% free. Items are not required to be in pristine condition, and in some cases can be non-working. Simply list the item that you wish to give away and wait for someone to respond saying that he or she is interested in taking the item. You may also request items you may want. Another member may have the item and will contact you to make pick-up arrangements. It's an easy way to keep good things out of the landfill, and reduce our human footprint in today's world. Don't throw it away - ReUseIt! |
