Black Labrador Retriever - Large - Baby - Female - Dog - Sweetie

**PLEASE GO TO OUR HOME PAGE TO FILL OUT THE ONLINE APPLICATION! I can email one also if requested. Home page: www.wpr.petfinder.com Black Dog and Cat Syndrome: Did you know that black dogs and cats in shelters are the least likely to get adopted and the most likely to be euthanized? The bigger the dog the less likely it is to get adopted. Black cats face similar difficulties in finding loving homes. If you are considering a new pet for your family, take a second look at the often overlooked, wonderful black dogs (or cats!) at your local rescue group or shelter. That beautiful black dog or cat you may accidently walk right by may be the most wonderful pet you've ever had. Black dogs and cats are just as loving and rewarding as any other pet. Please consider adopting a "black pearl". Go for personality, not color! Sweetie was on deathrow in a shelter and scheduled to die last Friday. Instead, the Waverly Pet Rescue took her in and she is living in a foster home. She is up-to-date on shots, has been dewormed, and spayed. Sweetie is about 5 or 6 months old. She looks like a purebred lab but we have no way to know for sure. She is a playful puppy and full of energy! She will need an active home to keep her busy. She has all the typical puppy behaviors so will need someone who can train her how to be a good doggy citizen. 9/11/09 UPDATE: Sweetie is a good little girl, though she still likes to go potty inside instead of outside. We are working on training her. She is smart so we are sure she will catch on soon. She is still fairly timid. She will start to back up if we lean down to pet her, but if we sit on the floor she will come to us. She will warm up as she gets to know us. Sweetie is getting better at stairs and has started to go up and down by herself, but she still has to be "pushed" out the door and "pulled" back in. She likes her rope toy, chew bone, and balls she will chew on them, until she can't find them and then will turn her attention to chewing anything she can find. Just like any puppy would! 9/16/09 UPDATE: We are still having accidents in the house, and needs to be watched constantly to make sure she doesn't try to chew on everything! She is sure a typical puppy! She doesn't like to be alone, she whines at night when she's in the kennel and there is anyone up. She is a very affectionate pu. She doesn't know how big she is and will jump up on small children who, just because of her size, get knocked down, we are working on teaching her not to jump. She comes running when anyone goes into the fridge, she wants an ice cube, which we are using for rewards for behavior training. 10/12/09 UPDATE: Sweetie is doing better in many areas and is almost potty trained completely! She still is a pup and chews on inappropriate things but much less than when we first got her. She is learning to sit on command so she is very trainable. She still jumps on everyone and now has learned she's tall enough to get to things on the kitchen counter and table. We're working on keeping her down and she will need continued guideance in a new home. We took Sweetie in August 14th, 2009. She was about 3-1/2 or 4 months old when we got her. She is now about 6-1/2 - 7 months old. She was recently spayed and weighed in at 42 pounds. 11/13/09 UPDATE: She has come a long way while she has been in our care. She has been 'accident free' for a couple of weeks now, loves to play fetch and hide and seek. She does need a home that doesn't have children's toys laying around as she still chews on anything that strikes her fancy. She devours raw hide bones and is being fed Purina dog chow, she has had problems with changing food in the past. She does not have any aggression issues with her food bowl and self regulates her eating, although she loves to clean the table and counters when there are any dishes left out. We do put her in a crate at night and if we are all away from home. She loves car rides. **Please be ready for the challenges of a puppy before adopting one....this little girl comes with a ton of love, but puppies are also a lot of work. Please have the time and commitment for a puppy before adoption.** Will someone please adopt Sweetie and give this her a forever home? $125.00 adoption fee. (her vet bill will be around $145, that is why her adoption fee is $125) **PLEASE GO TO OUR HOME PAGE TO FILL OUT THE ONLINE APPLICATION! I can email one also if requested.
